Corrigin Windmill Motel

attractions

Corrigin really is the heart of the Western Australian wheatbelt.  Corrigin has been established since the early 1900’s and farmed from the late 1880’s.  Probably one of the neatest and tidiest country towns in Australia, Corrigin is a joy to take a leisurely stroll through whilst admiring many of the pretty gardens or historic buildings.

Corrigin Town Hall - A majestic public building built in the 1920’s, its obvious decorative façade is considered to be one of the best of its type in rural WA, but a little known feature that is equally attractive  and unusual is the internal ceiling.  Very high and rounded with a late art nouveau style plaster finish, currently painted white, would come to life with heritage restoration and colouring.  Well worth a visit if you are into history.

Corrigin RSL Scenic Lookout - Situated in town, a great place to view the surrounding district either during the day or as some of our amateur astrologers like to do in the evening, star gaze.  A fine early Turkish canon is on display also, it dates from the first world war.

Pioneer Museum - Located across the road from the motel.  A wonderful collection of historic memorabilia.  Open either on Sundays or by appointment - highly recommended.

Wildflowers - Wildflowers are truly plentiful in the Corrigin District, many rare and unusual species are native to this area.  The main flowering season is from July - November, however unseasonal rain can bring pleasant surprises, so keep your eyes open when in our part of the world.

Corrigin Rock & Gorge Rock - The Corrigin district has quite a few interesting ancient rock formations including the Corrigin Rock a prominent feature on the eastern edge of town.  It can be viewed easily from the road entering town.  Gorge Rock is situated about 18 kms from Corrigin on the Wave Rock route and is also worthy of inspection.  Gorge Rock used to be the local swimming hole, it is a great place for a picnic and many native animals and birds inhabit the area.
